Scientist, Molecular Diagnostics

As a result of our growth, we have an immediate opening for a Scientist, Molecular Diagnostics
Position Summary:
We are seeking a Scientist with current technical expertise in clinical diagnostics and nucleic-acid based testing, in particular real-time amplification technologies. In this role, you will initiate, design, develop and execute scientific research projects. You will also investigate the feasibility of applying a wide variety of scientific principles and concepts to potential inventions and projects. In addition, you will participate in the development of patent applications, and contribute to scientific literature and conferences.
Position Details:
- Conduct independent research, develop independent ideas and recommend new approaches for potential product development; generate intellectual property.
- Design research proposals and experiments towards project goals.
- Participate in short and long-term planning of departmental goals.
- Integrate, analyze, review, evaluate and interpret scientific data to effectively present conclusions in oral and written form.
- Maintain accurate notebooks and complete documentation of all experiments and work.
- Perform work in a timely and organized fashion.
- Must be able to develop project timeline and manage project completion within those timelines.
- Provide input on direction of Company in the medical diagnostics industry.
- Expand current knowledge of nucleic acid-based amplification technologies through review and writing of published literature, participation in scientific meetings, and collaboration with internal and external resources.
- Work closely with the Scientists on laboratory compliance and maintenance.
- Develop and support an atmosphere for a teamwork environment and professional conduct.
- Develop methods of measurement to allow for the objective benchmarking improving quality of product design and development timelines.
- Complete all necessary training programs to maintain certification which are required for working on Development projects.
Required Skills
- PhD in a scientific discipline and a minimum of 2 years' medical industry experience; or MS with 8-10 years' medical industry experience with a focus on the IVD industry.
- Thorough understanding and application of principles, concepts and practices in molecular diagnostics.
- Strong laboratory skills including molecular assay development, and experience handling pathogens.
- High level of creativity in solving complex problems and troubleshooting.
- Proven ability to analyze data and write manuscripts for publications.
- Proven ability and accountability for meeting project deadlines and as needed, acting as the project lead.
- Ability to take on unforeseen roles, and to communicate and work well with all levels of staff and outside vendors.
- Strong observation, organizational, analytical, communication, presentation, project management and problem-solving skills.
- Previous experience developing molecular diagnostic tests is a plus.
- Familiarity working with microbial sequences as well as sequencing is a plus.
- Capable of valid experimental design and analytical data evaluation.
- Highly developed oral and written communication skills.
- Must be able to identify and effectively solve problems of a technical nature.
- Demonstrated ability to use good judgment in technical matters relating to problem solving or product or production difficulties.
