Battelle to Perform Verification Studies of IntelligentMDx’s Proprietary Molecular Diagnostic Assay Process

CAMBRIDGE, MA and COLUMBUS, OH (October 28, 2008) -- IntelligentMDx a developer and manufacturer of proprietary nucleic acid assays, today announced that it is working with the Battelle Eastern Science and Technology (BEST) Center to conduct assay performance verification studies of its nucleic acid-based diagnostic or ‘smart’ molecular diagnostic assays.

Under terms of the agreement Battelle will perform various testing of IntelligentMDx’s Quantitative BK Virus (BKV) Real-Time PCR Assay to identify its performance characteristics. Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

BKV has recently emerged as an important pathogen in nephropathy in kidney transplant patients and hemorrhagic cystitis in human stem cell transplant patients. The IntelligentMDx Quantitative BK Virus Real-Time PCR Assay can be utilized to track the course of infection and monitor response to treatment.

The biggest hurdle for a nucleic acid testing is that current reagent design methods do not specifically address the core set of challenge affecting reagent performance—such as genetic diversity and other key performance metrics. IntelligentMDx has a proprietary process to manage the design, development and manufacturing of pathogen assays that are platform agnostic and adaptable to all nucleic acid detection methodologies. The IntelligentMDx process allows for rapid time to market.

IntelligentMDx CEO Jacobs Chairs Panel at Harvard Business School Alumni Health Industry Conference

CAMBRIDGE, MASSACHUSETTS, November 5, 2007 — Intelligent Medical Devices CEO Alice Jacobs, MD, spoke on “Public and Private Partnerships for Working with Emerging Threats” at the Harvard Business School Health Industry Conference presented by the alumni association, HBS Health.

Jacobs chaired the panel moderated by The Economist’s chief business writer, Mathew Bishop, with other leaders in the world health community: Dr. Anthony Fauci, Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases; Stephane Bancel, CEO of BioMeriuex; Sara Sievers, Senior Program Officer for Global Health Advocacy at the Gates Foundation; and Kirk Ririe, Founder of Idaho Technology.

The engaging discussion covered a wide variety of issues facing Public Private Partnerships (PPPs), illuminating the need for efficient innovation in dealing with emerging infectious diseases. In speaking of the role that the PPPs can play, Dr. Jacobs stated that they “allow everyone to work on what they’re good at.” She pointed out that because PPPs promote specialization, they can allow for the most effective treatment of mutating pathogens. The discussion also included insights into the evolving role that philanthropic organizations such as the Gates Foundation play in the world of public and private partnerships.
